The WeWork Creator Awards event held last night at ACL Live in Austin were truly an awesome function that raised a glass to big ideas. The awards are part of a series of competitions open to applicants from around the world, including Austin - startups. Regional events are held in London, Tel Aviv, Mexico City, Washington, DC and Austin, TX, among others.
Winners from various regions are entered into the global finals. They fall into one of three categories: incubation, launch or scale. New York-based co-working giant WeWork Cos. organized the highly successful event in Austin. The function was attended by many people and companies.
Attendees were treated to platters of taquitos and free keg beers. The venue was characterized by an attractive display of arts and crafts. But, the real spotlight fell on local innovators. The majority of attendees were probably unfamiliar with the Austin - startups honored at the WeWork Creator Awards. Yet, this year's crop of winners all have one thing in common – big ideas.
Here are the winners (Austin - startups) recognized for their outstanding ideas and entrepreneurship:
- Successful Smiles of Texas (Roberto Rivera) - $18,000
- Freehand Arts Project (Murphy Anne Carter) - $18,000
- Ranco Alegre Radio (Piper LeMoine) - $18,000
- Kwaddle (Deven Hariyani) - $72,000
- Catspring Yaupon (Abianna Falla) - $180,000
- GrubTubs (Robert Olivier) - $360,000
- re:3D Inc. (Samantha Snabes) - $180,000

The launch level is aimed at innovators seeking to present business ideas to the market. WeWork offers grants between $72,000 and $180,000.
The scale category is open to applicants looking to grow their business ideas and products. Winners are awarded grants ranging between $180,000 and $360,000.
The Creator Awards provide a funding solution for entrepreneurs, artists and nonprofits around the world. WeWork does not require an equity stake or repayment from Austin - startups or competition winners. WeWork CEO Adam Neumann told Bloomberg that the objective of this initiative is to give back. The organization boasts a valuation of about $20 billion and operates globally.
